Storm Damage Repair in California, With a Plan for What Comes Next

When wind or hail hits your roof, you need to know what actually changed before you spend anything. We look over every slope, photograph what we find and lay out a clear plan: what to fix now, what can wait, and what to share with your insurance company.

What storm damage repair covers

Storm damage repair puts a roof back in order after weather has done something it shouldn't. That can mean lifted or torn shingle tabs, hail bruises that crack the mat, flashing pulled loose at a chimney, or a limb punched through the decking. Some of it shows from the yard. A lot of it doesn't, like shingles that still lie flat but have lost their granules and will start letting water through a few seasons from now.

Northern Kentucky's spring and summer thunderstorms often leave damage that only turns up months later as a stain on a bedroom ceiling. We'd rather help you catch it early. A calm look soon after the storm gives you real evidence if a claim makes sense, time to budget, and a repair date you choose.

Sometimes a handful of repairs will do the job just fine. Other times the damage is spread across an older roof, and a full roof replacement will serve you longer for what you spend. Either way, you'll hear our reasoning and see the photos behind it.

What we handle on a storm repair

A full roof and attic check
We walk every slope we can safely reach and check the ridge, valleys, vents and pipe boots. Then we look in the attic for wet decking, stained rafters or daylight where there shouldn't be any.
Dated photos of every damaged spot
Each problem area gets a wide shot and a close-up, with hail hits circled in chalk. You and your adjuster see the same thing we saw on the roof.
Temporary cover when water can get in
If an opening could leak before the repair date, we tarp or seal it so your home stays dry while the claim is sorted out.
Shingle and flashing repair
We replace creased, missing and bruised shingles, matched as closely as current products allow. Bent or lifted flashing around chimneys, walls and skylights is reset or replaced so it sheds water again.
Decking and underlayment
Where a limb or long leak has softened the plywood, we cut out the bad section, fasten new sheathing and lay fresh underlayment before any shingles go back on.
Gutters and siding noted too
Hail dents gutters and cracks siding in the same storm. We record that damage alongside the roof so it can be handled together through our Gutters and Siding services.

Signs your roof took more than a little wind

  • Shingles or pieces in the yard

Even one missing shingle leaves the nail line and underlayment open to the next rain.

  • Dents on gutters, vents or the mailbox

Soft metal shows hail first. If it's dented, your shingles took the same hits.

  • Granules piling at the downspouts

A sudden pile of dark grit after a storm usually means hail knocked the protective coating off your shingles.

  • A new stain or drip inside

Check the attic and top-floor ceilings a day or two after heavy rain. Fresh stains point to an opening above.

  • Lifted or creased tabs

Wind can fold a shingle back and break its seal. It may lie flat again but no longer hold in the next gust.

How a storm repair goes, start to finish

  1. 1

    Free inspection

We set a time that suits you, go over the roof and attic, and take photos. You get a straight answer about what the storm did and what it didn't.

  2. 2

    Written findings and estimate

You receive the photos and a line-by-line estimate for the repair. If the damage points toward replacement, we explain that separately so you can compare.

  3. 3

    Help with the insurance side

We explain how storm claims usually run, and we can be there when your adjuster visits so every damaged spot gets seen. Coverage is decided by your policy and the adjuster, not by us. Our part is making sure the evidence is complete.

  4. 4

    The work day

Before any old material comes down, we lay tarps over flower beds and shield the driveway. Once the repairs are done, a rolling magnet goes over the lawn to pick up stray nails. We show you photos of the finished work before we pack up.

What moves the cost of a storm repair

Every storm hits a roof a little differently, so your price comes from what we actually find up there rather than a guess. Each repair gets its own line on the written estimate, which makes it easier to budget and to weigh against your deductible, whether insurance is involved or not.

How much of the roof is damaged
A few torn tabs on one slope is a short job. Hail spread across every face of the roof is a much larger one.
What's under the shingles
Soft or broken decking has to be replaced before new shingles go down. We can't always see it until the old material comes off, so we explain that possibility up front.
Matching your shingles
Older shingle styles may no longer be made. Finding a close match, or blending a full slope, affects material cost.
Pitch, height and access
Steep or tall roofs need extra safety gear and time. Trees, fences and tight driveways can slow setup.

Storm damage questions we hear

Something not covered here? (859) 407-7419

Should I call my insurance company first or have the roof looked at?

Having the roof looked at first is usually the easier path. Our photos tell you whether there's real damage worth a claim, so you don't file over a few loose shingles. If there is damage, you go into the call with evidence in hand.

How long do I have to file a claim after a storm?

That depends on your policy, and many set a time window. It's worth checking your paperwork soon after the storm. The sooner the roof is documented, the easier it is to show the damage came from that event.

Will the repaired area match the rest of my roof?

We match color and style as closely as today's products allow. Some older shingles simply aren't made anymore, so an exact match can be out of reach. In that case we bring options to hold up against your roof before any work begins, and you pick.

Can you just repair the damage without an insurance claim?

Yes. Plenty of people pay out of pocket for smaller repairs, especially when the cost is close to their deductible. Your estimate makes that choice easy to weigh.

Does hail damage always mean I need a new roof?

No. Light hail on a newer roof often calls for targeted repair. If your shingles were already worn thin before the storm, putting the money toward a new roof can make more sense than patching. We'll lay out both paths plainly so you can decide.
